It's 2022, Who wants Democracy?
As we crawl into the year 2022 on our collective hands and knees, one can't help but to think and look back at the past five years and wonder in utter amazement and disbelief. We're just about to complete the first year of President Biden's administration (thank the good Lord for that) where we saw our government finally begin to take the Covid-19 virus seriously by requiring vaccinations of certain individuals and encouraging vaccinations of all others in order to slow and or stop the spread of the virus. However, some politicians, both federal and state, have turned this world wide pandemic and the idea of an individual having to get vaccinated to keep from getting sick and or dying has become an divisive political issue. It has become such an issue that I believe it has cost some people their lives, lives that didn't have to be lost.
You have to give it to the Republican Party, they know how to disrupt the functions of government and lie through their teeth while doing it without a single ounce of shame. The damage the GOP is doing to the political process and all American citizens (some of whom they're supposed to be representing) is nothing less than astonishing. It's one thing to be hesitant or cautious about getting vaccinated but it is a whole other thing to be totally against it and then turn it a government over reach, personal freedom issue and at the same time supporting or passive aggressively standing by as certain members push to overturn Roe v. Wade. With over 820,000 deaths in the U.S. attributed to Covid-19 or now one of its variants and over 5,400,000 worldwide one would think the aforementioned political party would change their tune but true to their political nature they have focused on denying American citizens their right to vote.
With one breath (and very long one) I could point to all that is insane with the GOP but the Democrats have to get off their asses and stop giving the Republicans the knife they get beheaded with. Watching this political process play out in the media, be it social or corporate, is like seeing a group of college freshman getting bullied by a group of crazed, drunk, methamphetamine abusing racists. With the exception of some Democrats who do give back as good as they get and in some cases give back a lot more with smart and fierce precision. However as a party the Democrats overall messaging is absolutely horrendous and has been for quite some time. What's even more astonishing is that their either oblivious to or they're not concerned with it at all. One would think that with most of these politicians being college educated they could surely recognized they're not reaching the voting public who would benefit the most from the Democratic agenda.
But here we are, 2022, another Covid-19 variant spreading like wildfire worldwide. Republicans are nine miles above the coo coo nest and climbing and the Democrats seem too afraid to flex their political muscle and take advantage of every Republican gaffe. We're 11 months from the midterm elections with the political neophytes already declaring victory for Republicans with no sense of urgency from the Democrats. Failure to pass Build Back Better may or may not be a reason for defeat for the Dems' but it won't be the only reason if it is. There's no massive social movement to energize the base this election cycle. The Democrats have to start exercising their political muscle if the intends on keeping control of the House and Senate after the next cycle. But if past midterm history has shown us, it ain't looking good.
